It looked and sounded a lot like Independence Day on Lakeside Drive in Jonestow, Texas, with the Lago Vista High School marching band playing "The Star-Spangled Banner" and other patriotic songs, a flag-raising, Scouts, soldiers and dignitaries standing at a podium invoking God, country and sacrifice. The occasion was a much-anticipated homecoming for Augie Peña, who survived a 2009 Iraq deployment and then was struck by a drunken driver the next year while changing a friend's tire. Home prices predicted to rise through 2017

House prices increased 7.3 percent in 2012, the strongest rate of appreciation in nearly seven years, and are projected to continue to rise, albeit at a slower annualized rate of 3.9 percent through 2017. That's according to an analysis of home price trends in more than 380 U.S. markets by CoreLogic, a residential property analytics company. The analysis is based on the CoreLogic Case-Shiller Indexes, owned and generated by CoreLogic and supplemented with data from the Federal Housing Finance Agency. More

More student housing to land near UTSA

A new student housing complex called The Luxx will rise east of the University of Texas at San Antonio's Main Campus with the help of financing announced by Johnson Capital. The developer, NRP Group LLC, plans to finish the $32 million complex before the fall 2014 semester, according to a news release. It will include 212 units with 668 beds on a 15-acre site on the north side of UTSA Boulevard. More

Toll Brothers climbs after home orders and profit increased

Toll Brothers Inc., the largest U.S. luxury-home builder, rose in New York trading after reporting the most orders since 2006 and profit that beat estimates. Net income for the three months through April was $24.7 million, or 14 cents a share, compared with $16.9 million, or 10 cents, a year earlier, the Horsham, Pennsylvania-based company said in a statement. The average of 14 analyst estimates was for earnings of 7 cents a share, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The fiscal second-quarter results included a $13.2 million pretax gain tied to the settlement of litigation. More
