A historic drought has depleted Texas aquifers to lows rarely seen since 1948, and it could take months — or even years — for the groundwater supplies to fully recharge, scientists who study NASA satellite data said Wednesday. Climatologists, hydrologists and even local residents had suspected the drought that has parched Texas for 14 months was significantly hurting the precious aquifers that course beneath the Lone Star State. Texas Republican officials formally asked the nation's top court Wednesday to block court-drawn interim congressional districts. In new paperwork filed Wednesday, top state officials — including Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, Gov. Rick Perry and Secretary of State Hope Andrade — formally asked the U.S. Supreme Court to prevent the new boundaries from taking effect and to delay Texas' primary if necessary. More

Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has given organizers of next year's U.S. Grand Prix another week to save the Texas race by proving they have the finances in place. Rep: Veronica Gonzales won't seek re-election

Add state Rep. Veronica Gonzales, D-McAllen, to the list of legislators who won't be seeking re-election next year. The Valley representative says that she won't run again, bringing the number of voluntary dropouts in the Texas House to more than two dozen. Gonzales, who took office in 2005, chairs the House Border and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee. She sent an email confirming the rumors of her decision. More

Construction was halted on the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas earlier this month after all parties failed to reach an agreement and secure a contract. The organizers blamed Ecclestone and his "unreasonable" demands while he blamed COTA for not having the money to pay for the race. Ecclestone gave COTA until Nov. 30 to find the money and sign the contract, however, Wednesday came and went without any word. More
