"I've outlined a detailed plan that will ensure that we add $4 billion more per year for building roads in this state without raising taxes, fees or tolls," Abbott said at a press conference.

Parade of open-carry bills exposes divide in ranks
The Texas Tribune
As momentum grows behind a push to let Texans carry handguns openly, the biggest fight may be among Second Amendment advocates themselves. A conflict is emerging over how far changes to the current state law should go, and some gun-rights supporters fear that the divide may sink efforts to lift handgun restrictions during the legislative session that begins in January.

New report celebrates 2014 Texas housing market
National Mortgage Professional Magazine
The Lone Star State's housing industry of 2014 was a triumph for home sales, according to the 2014 Texas Annual Housing Report released by the Texas Association of Realtors. According to the report, a great deal of the success can be attributed to people flocking into the state: Texas receives more out-of-state residents than any other state — more than 584,000 people moved to Texas from out of state in 2013 — and it is also a leading in home sales from international buyers, with $11 billion in home purchases from people coming from outside of the United States.

More municipal bans on fracking pose setback to domestic energy boom
Fox News
The surge in domestic-energy production that has created millions of new jobs and abundant natural gas and oil is now facing a potential setback, with cities across the country imposing bans on the widely-used deep-drilling process known as fracking. At least three U.S. cities and two counties in the November elections voted in favor of such a ban. And courts in Pennsylvania and New York have recently ruled in favor of letting cities have some control over the drilling. There is little surprise that Texas is at the forefront of the fight between energy companies and other fracking supporters and critics who say the drilling process is noisy, pollutes water supplies and triggers earthquakes.
