Abbott names leadership team for inauguration

Fort Worth businessman Ardon Moore has been selected to oversee the inaugural celebration for Gov.-elect Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov.-elect Dan Patrick, Abbott's transition team announced. Moore, president of Lee M. Bass, Inc., will be joined on the 2015 Texas Inaugural Committee by El Paso entrepreneur Alejandra de la Vega Foster and Dallas philanthropist Toni Brinker Pickens, both of whom will serve as co-chairs. John L. Nau III of Houston and Trevor Rees-Jones of Dallas — two major contributors to Abbott's campaign — have been tapped to raise money for the festivities as finance committee co-chairs.

New Fed report highlights booming Texas economy

Texas is now the world's third largest producer of natural gas and fifth largest producer of crude oil, turning out more crude oil than Iraq, according to an eye popping new report on the state's booming economy from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports. The report pegs the state's total economic output at more than $1.5 trillion, meaning the Texas economy is about the same size as the economy of the nation of Australia.

With oil below $60, What's next?

The price of West Texas Intermediate crude oil closed Thursday below $60, "a level of great psychological significance," according to The Washington Post, and a price not seen in five years. With prices of the global commodity off more than $40 from the summer, analysts are looking at what a shift in prices might mean in the larger economy.
