Berry investing $33 million in Evansville, Ind.

Berry Plastics Group Inc. will spend $33 million to expand operations at its Evansville, Ind., plant. The majority of that investment will be spent on equipment to make a new line of plastic food packaging, according to a local news report. Berry is also planning to add 115 new jobs at the location by the end of the year and has already begun hiring for professional, technical and production positions, according to a news release from the Indiana Economic Development Corp. More

Caps and closures manufacturer Bericap North America is investing $29 million in an expansion that will double the size of a plant in South Carolina. Bericap immediately will begin installing new state-of-the-art equipment at the facility, but doesn't plan to break ground on the building expansion until the second half of 2013, according to a news release. West Liberty Foods, L.L.C. announced that its West Liberty, Iowa, facility has successfully achieved "landfill free" status. This status was independently verified by NSF International Strategic Registrations Ltd. (NSF‐ISR) and dated Dec. 13, 2012, meaning that West Liberty Foods achieved their goal of becoming a "landfill free" company within one calendar year. The NSF‐ISR verification process was used to ensure that West Liberty Foods could demonstrate the total waste from its West Liberty facility entering the landfill was less than 1 percent. More

Lindal Group, a manufacturer of aerosol packaging components, has opened a new facility in Brazil that is more than double the size of its existing plant. The new plant, located in Itupeva, a municipality in the state of São Paulo, will replace the company's facility in the neighboring city of Jundiai. Lindal announced plans for the facility in June. Polish plastics packaging producer Opakomet in Kraków is reported to have been acquired by the Warsaw-based company Międzynarodowa Korporacja Gwarancyjna (MKG). MKG bought a stake of 92.58 percent in the partially state owned packaging firm for a sum of €4.8 million, according to an announcement by Poland's finance ministry.  This included a share of 42 percent held by the government for which MKG agreed to pay €2.2 million.
