As the fashion world turns its attention to the Tents at Bryant Park, this year marks the first time that Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City will be a completely carbon neutral event. In an initiative underwritten by leading carton packaging manufacturer Tetra Pak, and supported by Tetra Pak's customer and natural beverage supplier O.N.E.(TM) Natural Experience, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week will be using a combination of emission reduction activities and carbon offsets to ensure its emissions are reduced to net zero. In its global Biodegradable Polymers, SRI Consulting (SRIC) reports the global biodegradable polymers market doubled from 2005 to 2009. The consulting and business research service noted that this growth occurred despite global economic slowdowns.  SRIC also projects 13 percent annual growth for global biodegradable polymers market from 2009 to 2014. Frito Lay Canada is first with 100 percent compostable SunChips bag

Pre-empting a publicized U.S. Earth Day launch, Frito Lay Canada (a division of PepsiCo) has announced that it will start stocking shelves with the new 100 percent compostable SunChips bag in March. The flexible packaging will be made from more than 90 percent renewable, plant-based materials and will completely break down into compost in a hot, active compost pile in approximately 14 weeks, according to the company. Bemis Co. Inc. said that chief financial officer Gene Wulf will step down from the post to lead the integration of its planned $1.2 billion acquisition of the Alcan Packaging Food Americas operations. At the scheduled May 6 meeting of the board of directors, Wulf will assume a new role as executive vice president of the Neenah-based manufacturer of flexible packaging and pressure-sensitive materials for food, consumer products and other companies. Bemis vice president of finance Scott Ullem will assume the title of CFO. More
