On April 7, the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI) will conduct a five-segment symposium at SinoCorrugated 2011. Each segment will feature discussions on overseas pulp and paper markets and the development of the packaging industry. Symposium participants will also be able to scrutinize the factory management experience of developed nations in Europe and North America. More

Packaging technology firm Petainer has launched a PET keg for draught beverages, which company claims offers environmental benefits over the more traditional metal alternative. Nigel Pritchard, chief executive officer of Petainer, said: "The Petainer Keg offers a significant breakthrough in the sales and marketing of volume beer, wine and other beverages. It opens up new channels and markets and provides a step change in environmental performance -- as well as reducing costs and improving cash flow." More

New Tide and Gain compacted-powder laundry detergents from Procter & Gamble are now available at Target stores nationwide. The new detergents are compacted by one-third, while offering the same number of loads in a smaller box. P&G estimates that the compacted detergents could help save up to 22 million pounds of total packaging in the U.S. and Canada each year. More

Study confirms cartons meet recyclable standard

A new study commissioned by the American Forest & Products Association (AF&PA) confirms that folding cartons meet the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) standard necessary to display the term "recyclable" on that packaging. In response to the findings of this RW Beck study, the 100 percent Recycled Paperboard Alliance has released guidance to their licensees about adding the "recyclable" claim to enhance the existing RPA-100% symbol.
