Opportunities to help the industry's future at 2014 TAPPI PLACE Conference
TAPPI
Not only can you advance your own career at the 2014 TAPPI PLACE Conference, but did you know you can also help the industry’s future at the same time?

TAPPI’s PLACE Division engages young professionals and students in the Flexible Packaging industry through its Student Outreach Program. Funds from this Program are used to award scholarships to students in the packaging related fields; to help schools start new student chapters; to cover travel stipends so students can attend the conference: and fund prizes for student poster competitions at the conference.

At this year’s conference, May 13-15 at the Sawgrass Marriott in Ponte Vedra, Florida, there will be a Silent Auction with all proceeds benefitting the Student Outreach Program. In addition, companies sponsoring the event can participate in the 110% Club by adding an additional 10 percent to their sponsorship and this tax deductible contribution will go directly toward building the PLACE student programs.

But the sales numbers don’t show an increase. For the majority of brands, where the primary consumer isn’t considered LOHAS (lifestyles of health and sustainability), this is likely the reality.

How to scale packaging line automation around the world
Packaging Digest
When it comes to selecting packaging machinery to scale up around the world, global companies are faced with a decision: when — and where — to invest in automated machinery vs semi-automated systems? Interest for American products in emerging countries is on the rise partly because of the growing middle class in some of those areas. From a capital equipment need, semi-automatic machines often fit the packaging operation needs in those countries. Yet, to be competitive in the United States, companies often focus on highly automated packaging systems.
