A study examining the effects of targeted snack food taxes on purchase decisions found warning labels can strongly impact consumer behavior with high-fat snacks that carry a "sin" tax. Although the results were mixed, with consumer groups responding to consumer behavior modification tools differently, researchers note that the findings support existing literature suggesting taxes alone are not an effective way to decrease consumption of less healthy snacks. The local government of India's capital, Delhi, has imposed a blanket ban on the manufacture, sale, storage and use of plastic bags in the capital city, starting April 4. The decision was taken by the Delhi cabinet, headed by the chief minister Sheila Dikshit. Plastic bags were banned in the city in 2009, but the ban was not widely enforced. About 250 traders had been fined for violating the old law. More

Baco has launched four new flavors of its Apple Tree fruit juice range in O-I glass bottles. Packaging manufacturer Tetra Pak says 2010 sales totaled €9.98 billion, a 5.2 percent increase compared to 2009 at comparable rates. The Packaging Solutions business reached €9.01 billion in net sales in 2010, an increase of 5.9 percent, driven by double digit growth in the emerging markets of Southeast Asia, eastern Europe, Central Asia, China and South America. Sales of Processing Solutions edged down 0.7 percent to €971 million. More
