Survey shows consumer demand continues to drive sustainability for retailers

Nearly all retail executives agree that there is a growing consumer demand for sustainable packaging, according to a new study on sustainable packaging commissioned by the Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI). The survey of 400 executives and managers at food and beverage retail companies found that 97 percent of retail executives believe that consumers are driving a demand for green packaging, and 98 percent of these professionals anticipate an increase in this demand within the next year.

Salary Survey forecast is partly cloudy

Uncertainty clouds the U.S. job market, and to an extent the results of the 2014 Salary Survey. How so? Overall, 73 percent of respondents saw an increase in earnings during 2013 over 2012. And the average total compensation increase was 3.69 percent. Yet the average total compensation for 2013 was $109,509, down ever so slightly from the $110,213 reported in the 2013 survey.

Smurfit Kappa boosted by 81 percent surge in pre-tax profit

Paper and packaging group Smurfit Kappa has reported an 81 percent rise in pre-tax profit. In its first quarter results, the group posted pre-tax profit of €104 million, compared to €57 million in the same period last year. Revenue was also up 2 percent to €1.9 billion.
