Amcor launches lightest 64 oz PET bottle

U.S.-based Amcor says it has created the lightest 64oz (1.9l) hot-fill PET container of its kind, weighing only 59g. The company developed Powerblock 3.0 technology to make the bottle, which comes with a 38mm finish, 13.2 percent lighter than the typical 68g bottle.

APPE extends passata shelf life

APPE, the packaging division of La Seda de Barcelona (LSB), claims its Bind-Ox technology is helping Italian food brand Conserve Italia extend the shelf life of its Passata products. Bind-Ox is an active barrier that traps oxygen and binds it into the bottle wall, thus preventing it from reaching the contents and spoiling the product. The PET bottle provided to Conserve Italia ensures an ambient shelf-life of 18 months, says APPE.

UK increases household plastic waste collection

Recoup claims that a boost in domestic recycling collections is the principal contributor to the U.K. hitting plastics packaging recycling targets. According to its 2012 U.K. Household Plastics Collection Survey it now accounts for almost 70 percent of the 610,000 tonnes of plastics packaging recycled. The authors also highlight a recycling rate of 52 percent for plastic bottles — the first time the collection rate has passed the 50 percent barrier.
