US demand for specialty films growing 5.2 percent yearly
Packaging Digest
U.S. demand for specialty films is forecast to advance 5.2 percent per year to $8.0 billion in 2017. Gains will be driven by the increasing need for high-performance plastic films which offer barrier properties, mechanical strength, and chemical resistance in packaging applications. Increasing use in small, but high-growth market areas, such as photovoltaic modules and biodegradable packaging, will also bolster advances, as will a rebound in the construction market.

Fluid flow phenomena
PFFC
When a fluid hits a substrate, pushing through the barrier of air, the fluid tends to flow predictably. This phenomenon is a function of the interfacial tensions between a fluid, the displaced air, and the substrate being contacted. Whether the fluid wets the surface of the substrate and spreads, or de-wets and retracts, is determined by the interactive forces involved. The energies that are inherent in the substrate and fluid can be manipulated, but not without consequences.
