Skyrocketing resin prices have intensified the race to create plant-based PET bottles as replacements for petroleum-derived ones. This led to recent dual announcements, first by H.J. Heinz Co. of plans to use Coca-Cola's 30 percent plant-based PET PlantBottle for packaging its ketchup, and then by PepsiCo which announced a 100 percent plant-based PET bottle in the laboratory. Sabic is adding to its range of polypropylenes for thin-wall injection moulding products with a new copolymer grade, Flowpact FPC 100. The company has developed the material for packaging dairy products such as yogurts, cream, flavored milk and cheese spreads. Flowpact FPC 100 has a melt flow rate (MFR, 230°C, 2.16 kg) of 100g/10min, enabling easy production using multi-cavity moulds running at high speed. More

The Waste & Resource Action Programme (Wrap) has unveiled an ambitious business plan, which it claims will save the UK economy £2 billion. It also aims to save 7 million tonnes of CO2 and divert 3 million tonnes of biodegradable waste from landfill per year.
