PepsiCo announced the Dream Machine Summer Recycling Challenge, a national call-to-action asking Americans to commit to recycle every can and bottle at summertime cookouts, starting with Independence Day. Preserve launches mail-back pack for recycled toothbrushes

Early this year, Waltham, Mass.-based Preserve Products launched a Mail-Back Pack for its toothbrushes that allows consumers to mail the toothbrush back to the company for recycling into plastic lumber once they're done using the toothbrush. The toothbrush handle is made from recycled polypropylene, with new nylon bristles. More

Kellogg's and Procter & Gamble have recalled products from US supermarkets due to problems with packaging, according to reports. The Kellogg Company has recalled 28 million boxes of cereal after packaging lining on certain brands was said to smell abnormal and has been linked to diarrhea. More

Packaging giant Rexam will expand its operations in Arkansas, the U.S., creating more than 150 new jobs by the end of the year. In a June 23 news release by the Arkansas Economic Development commission, London-based Rexam, which employs more than 250 in Hot Springs, said it has begun hiring more manufacturing and supervisory workers. Polymer price rises squeeze BPI margins

British Polythene Industries (BPI) expects trading to be down for the first six months of the year, despite sales being up five percent on the same period last year. Guala Group has teamed up with two companies in a bid to dominate the emerging spouted flexible packaging market in the United States and Canada, said one of the partners in the deal. The Italian flexible packaging giant has formed a joint venture called Cheer Pack North America with US-based CFD Corporation and Japan's Hosokawa Yoko "to develop and support spouted packaging technology in North America," said a CFD statement.
