Recycling not always lowest-carbon option for PET bottles, says new report

For countries with adequate space and little recycling infrastructure, disposing of bottles in landfill generates a lower carbon footprint than recycling or incineration. SRI Consulting (SRIC) has introduced "PET's Carbon Footprint: To Recycle or Not To Recycle," an independent evaluation of the carbon footprint of PET bottles with an analysis of secondary packaging from cradle to grave and from production of raw materials through to disposal. More



Graham Packaging buys Liquid Container

U.S.-based Graham Packaging has signed a deal to buy blow moulder Liquid Container and its subsidiaries for $568 million (€431.1 million). Liquid Container has 14 blow moulding plants -- all in North America -- and expects to generate EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) of $72 million (€54.6 million) on sales of almost $400 million (€303.4 million) in 2010. Novomer awarded US$18.4 million to covert waste into polymers

Eldorado Artesian Springs, Inc. announced that it's the first U.S. bottled spring water company to use 100 percent recycled plastic in its bottles. The RPET used in Eldorado's new bottle is FDA approved and meets the same safety standards as virgin plastic bottles. Eldorado Natural Spring Water will be available in the new RPET bottles in Colorado beginning in August. More
