EU industry groups aim to reduce food waste

Southern Film Extruders files for Chapter 11 protection

Polyethylene film manufacturer Southern Film Extruders Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Aug. 4 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in North Carolina. The High Point, N.C.-based firm made the filing 10 days after creditors had filed an involuntary Chapter 7 filing against Southern.

Majority of alcohol packaging is 'responsible,' says watchdog

Independent audit results have shown that the vast majority of alcohol products conform to Portman Group responsibility standards. As part of its ongoing compliance work, the Portman Group appointed independent consultants, Campden BRI, to audit a random sample of 500 alcoholic drinks in supermarkets, convenience stores and off-licenses. It found that the vast majority of the sample was compliant with the Portman Group Code of Practice.

Weber adds PET bottle capacity

Weber International Packaging Corp. is expanding its PET blow molding capacity with a new machine at its plant in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec. "We feel the market wants it," said Weber spokesman Andre Parent in a recent phone interview from Vaudreuil-Dorion. The new machine will make cosmetics bottles that have better aesthetics because of PET's clarity, he explained.
