Bemis Co. to close 2 Minnesota Curwood flexible packaging plants

Packaging giant Bemis Co., a firm with a 130-year history in the Twin Cities, is closing a plant in St. Louis Park, and will close one in Minneapolis by year's end, reports the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. The closings will leave 158 people looking for work - 96 employees at the Minneapolis operation and 62 at the St. Louis Park plant. Both factories make flexible packaging for food under the Curwood brand, a division of Bemis. More

Water soluble films company MonoSol has manufactured pouches made from edible film which disappear and release their contents when exposed to hot or cold liquids. Cosmetics giant Revlon is now using the Jessica spray actuator from Plasticum for its Charlie brand of fragrance. Jessica is a horizontal spray actuator that comes with Plasticum's patented Integrated Spray (IS) technology. The packs, including ready meals and salads, are being printed at Ultimate Packaging's digital print division Shere Print. The company bought a HP Indigo WS6600 digital web press in May, and was the first U.K. printer to use the machine for flexible packaging. More

DaMar Plastics adding equipment in new location

Custom blow molder and injection molder DaMar Plastics Inc. is investing more than $500,000 for equipment and infrastructure in a new location. DaMar placed a June order with a domestic supplier for a complete system to fill blow molded bottles of one to three liters with commercial chemicals. The system including conveyor lines should be operational in January, said Sal Acampora, vice president of sales for DaMar. More
