Packaging manufacturer sues Frito-Lay over Doritos Gamer Pack

Packaging is big business, and for brand owners it is a major differentiator when their products hit store shelves. Packaging design also involves patented intellectual property. Recently, Clear Lam Packaging Inc., filed suit against Frito-Lay in Chicago's federal court, accusing the snack-food giant of stealing a packaging design for its promotional boxes of Doritos.

Romaco and Ecobliss present Locked4Kids

The new Locked4Kids packaging concept will be unveiled by Romaco and Ecobliss to interested trade visitors at the upcoming CPhI 2014 exhibition in Paris/France. Locked4Kids is a child resistant, reclosable carton box that was explicitly designed for packaging pharmaceuticals. Locked4Kids cartons contain special blister trays with small hooks on the long sides. These hooks are placed diagonally to one another, so that the tray is locked securely when it is pushed right in.

"If you are not using conformal cooling, it is almost a sure bet your competitors are," Robert Beard, president of Robert A. Beard & Associates said. Beard explained that conventional molds include straight-line cooling channels, while conformal cooling utilizes cooling lines in an injection mold that curve and follow the geometry of a part to be produced.

A bottled water for kids relaunches in a throwback package

In 2008, Y Water, an organic, vitamin-infused water for kids, began selling at Whole Foods stores around the country. It charmed the press, including Bloomberg Businessweek, in large part because the plastic packaging, designed by Yves Béhar, was shaped like a tetrahedron and doubled as a toy; it interlocked with other Y bottles to form molecular-like structures.
