Children prefer boxes than toys inside them at Xmas, survey finds

Children have more fun playing with cardboard boxes at Christmas than the actual toys that comes inside them, according to a new survey. The research is called Ribena plus play report: The role of toys in play. A total of 46 percent of parents claimed their child enjoys playing with cardboard boxes instead of costly toys and games. More

Acquisitive group Reflex Labels has bought the struggling Labelsco as it looks to expand in the pharmaceutical and health care markets. Under the deal, which completed on Oct. 8, Reflex has taken on some 90 staff and Labelsco's 6,400 square meter factory in Leicestershire, U.K. The business will continue to trade under the Labelsco name. Clear Lam Packaging, Inc. has signed an agreement with Toyota Tsusho Corp., a global supplier of Bio-PET resin (bio-based polyethylene terephthalate), to become the lead company in North America to launch the renewable bioplastic in its rollstock product line. Made partially from bio-based mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) derived from sugarcane-based bioethanol, the Bio-PET is up to 30 percent plant-based. It's also as recyclable as petroleum-based PET. More

Jindal Poly buying ExxonMobil BOPP films business

An Indian company has agreed to buy ExxonMobil Chemical Co.'s global biaxially oriented polypropylene films operations, which comprise one of the world's largest BOPP film manufacturers. New Delhi-based Jindal Poly Films Ltd. said it signed the deal on Oct. 26, but it did not release terms. The company announced the acquisition to the Bombay Stock Exchange. More

Eyetracking study shows clear plastic clamshell packaging outperforms paperboard boxes

Klöckner Pentaplast recently conducted eyetracking research through Clemson University's CUShop™ to evaluate how different styles of packaging influence a customer's point-of-sale behavior. Different packaging options can make an enormous difference to the bottom line. Backed by statistical evidence, results indicated a strong purchase preference for clear plastic clamshells over printed paperboard boxes, with 402 percent more purchases being received for clear plastic clamshells.
