EPS industry shows slow but steady rise in recycling rates

The EPS Industry Alliance (EPS-IA) has released its 2012 bi-annual recycling report, which shows a steady rise in recycling rates of expanded polystyrene. To better track EPS recycling trends, the association gathers data to reflect both post-residential and post-commercial collection streams. The 2012 results show a modest decrease in the number of post-consumer pounds recycled, and a substantial increase in the number of post-industrial pounds recycled based on data received from 51 EPS manufacturers and independent recyclers in the U.S.

Constantia Flexibles seeking to go public by year-end

Constantia Flexibles Group GmbH says it is planning to go public by the end of the year in what could be a record-setting Austrian initial public offering. The Wall Street Journal reported in July the offering could value the company at up to 2 billion euros ($2.74 billion). If so, Constantia's IPO would be the largest-ever Austrian IPO, eclipsing Strabag SE's (STR.VI, SBAGY) offering in October 2007, which generated proceeds of around $1.88 billion, according to Dealogic.

The American Chemistry Council (ACC) has announced that Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. has joined the association’s Flexible Film Recycling Group (FFRG). Wegmans is the first retailer to join the FFRG, a self-funded group in ACC’s Plastics Division dedicated to driving growth in polyethylene film recovery. Wegmans is a family-owned, regional supermarket chain based in Rochester, NY, with more than 80 stores in the eastern U.S. The company was ranked the best large U.S. grocery chain by Consumer Reports in 2012.
