Pafa backs European anti-litter drive

Major players from Europe's packaging industry have joined forces with litter prevention organizations to launch an annual "Clean Europe Day," starting in 2014. The move followed a litter conference organised by Europe's food and beverage service and convenience packaging association, Pack2Go Europe. The announcement was welcomed by the Packaging and Films Association (Pafa), which believes that campaigns of this type are key to achieving "a sustainable solution to littering problems in the UK." RPC provides packaging for organic sauces

German manufacturer Petersilchen has chosen RPC packaging for its Sanchon Gatroline range of organic sauces and purees for restaurants. The range, which includes products such as tomato and curry sauces, will be packed in RPC's Thermic Ultra and Finesse multilayer containers, which have a combination of PP and oxygen barrier layers. Ratings agency warns of refinancing trouble for Clondalkin

Ratings agency Moody's has said that Clondalkin could find it increasingly difficult to refinance over €400 million of debt that matures this time next year as recovery in its operating performance is slower than expected. In a statement, the agency said that folding cartons maker Clondalkin, which is owned by private equity giant Warburg Pincus, needs a "more sustainable financial profile." More

Virginia lawmaker proposes nickel tax on plastic bags

A Virginia lawmaker has proposed imposing a nickel tax on single-use plastic bags, the Washington Examiner reported. The money raised from the tax would go toward the state's Water Quality Improvement Fund, which has been funding clean up of Chesapeake Bay. The proposed law would exempt bags used for ice cream, meat, fish, poultry, leftover restaurant food, newspapers, dry cleaning and prescription drugs, the newspaper reported. But all other plastic bags from retail outlets would cost consumers five cents, the newspaper reported. More
