Bemis Co. to acquire Alcan Packaging Food Americas for $1.2 billion

Bemis Company Inc. has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the Food Americas operations of Alcan Packaging, a business unit of international mining group Rio Tinto plc, for $1.2 billion. Bemis will acquire 23 Food Americas flexible packaging facilities in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and New Zealand. These facilities produce flexible packaging for the food and beverage industries. More

Coated Barrier Films Extend Shelf Life on Food Packaging

Toxic Heavy Metals Found in 14 Percent of Retail Packaging

Fourteen percent of retail packaging failed a screening test for toxic heavy metals and is likely in violation of state laws, according to a report just released by the Toxics in Packaging Clearinghouse (TPCH, or Clearinghouse). Imported products using flexible polyvinylchloride (PVC) packaging and the printing inks and colorants used on shopping and produce bags were most likely to contain these toxic metals, including lead and cadmium, known environmental and health hazards. Joe Trungale's second edition, The Anilox roll – Heart of the Flexo Process, has been newly enhanced and contains an accurate historical review of the flexo printing process, anilox roll construction, information on the various methods of doctoring the ink such as rubber roll, doctor blade and the chambered doctor blade systems.
