The European Bank for Reconstruction & Development (EBRD) is considering providing a €29.8 million loan to Ukrplastic, a leading producer of flexible plastic packaging in Ukraine. The money would finance its energy efficiency investments, help it launch new products and restructure its balance sheet. It would help the Kiev-based company to notably establish a solvent recovery system, a new lamination line and commission a CHP (combined heat and power) plant. More

Arla has set its sights on 20 percent recycled content for milk bottles after revealing that all its fresh milk and Cravendale bottles now contain 15 percent recycled plastic. Dairy Arla said that the increased use of recycled plastic in its polybottles was the equivalent of a 3,200-ton annual carbon reduction. More

Pfizer invests £26 million in biotechnology packaging facility in Havant, UK

Major medicine supplier Pfizer has opened a £26.3 million biotechnology packaging facility at its plant in Havant, near Portsmouth. The company is also planning further investment into the plant - opened last week by science minister David Willetts - including new packaging lines and additional cold storage facilities planned for 2011. Shares in GW Plastics Holdings Bhd closed at 78.5 sen on its debut on the Main Market, 2.5 sen higher from its initial public offering (IPO) price of 76 sen per share. A total of 17.47 million shares changed hands. The shares opened at 77.5 sen, registering a premium of 1.5 sen per share. The group is Malaysia's largest flexible plastic packaging manufacturer.
