Safety Committee Concussion, Heat Illness Awareness Training

The Safety Committee kicked off its Concussion and Heat Illness Awareness Campaign at the Annual Meeting. It was good to see many of you at the RS, DC/CA Meeting and at the Concussion Workshop presented by Dr. Joe Grubenhoff. Pony Club Championships, Sponsorship

Each year, USPC holds National Championships in Dressage, Eventing, Mounted Games, Polocrosse, Quiz, Show Jumping and Tetrathlon. All members competing at Championships must qualify through participation in Regional Rallies. Championships are conducted in the same manner as rallies, with most of the disciplines sending a team of mounted members and an unmounted stable manager.More

Foxhunting Writing Contest

The annual Hildegard Neill Ritchie Writing contest is open to all D or C-rated Pony Club members. The winning submission will receive a $200 cash prize to be spent on foxhunting dues, hunt capping fees, Pony Club camp or anything related to these activities. Second place will receive $100; third place, $50. The winning entries will be published in USPC News and in The Chronicle of the Horse. The contest award is from a memorial fund established by friends of Ritchie, who was a long-time Pony Club supporter and volunteer. She founded the Colorado Springs Pony Club in 1958 and was its District Commissioner for 30 years. She was Regional Supervisor of the Colorado (now Rocky Mountain) region for 12 years and hosted regional Pony Club camps on her ranch for 20 plus years. She served several terms as a USPC Governor and received the USPC Founders Award in 1989. For full details, click here.More

Deadline Approaching For The Live Oak Hounds Challenge

The Live Oak Hounds Challenge is a way to encourage clubs and their members to become involved in the sport of Foxhunting. Clubs who get the most members who have not hunted before — or have hunted on a limited basis — to participate in three or more hunts during the season are awarded cash prizes. 2013 Lendon Gray Youth Dressage Festival

July 12-14, in Saugerties, N.Y., and June 23, in Fruitport, Mich.

The USPC plans to send teams to both Lendon Gray's Youth Dressage Festivals this year. For full particulars on the competition, click here. While most of the cost of this competition will be the responsibility of the competitor, the Dressage Committee is doing fundraising to assist with entry fees and stabling costs. To qualify for the USPC Team you will need to file a declaration of intent to compete as well as fulfilling the qualifying criteria. The Declaration must be filed by May 1.

2013 Pony Finals Team

Aug. 7-11, in Lexington, Ky., at the Kentucky Horse Park.

USPC has been designated by USEF as its own zone and has the opportunity every year to send a team to compete at the USEF Pony Finals! USPC may take a team of the top three or four pony/rider combinations. Pony and Children's Jumper classes held at USEF Licensed regular (not local) competitions starting on or between July 2, 2012 and June 1, 2013. Classes held at less than 1.00m (3'3") will count as half of their point value. Ties will be broken by the greatest number of points earned above 1.00m (3'3"). Riders must be current members in good standing of USPC with a minimum D3 rating and declare their intent to compete for USPC by March 15. Click here for more information and the declaration.More
