Full-Day Workshop with Presenter Jamie Sabbach
There's an old saying that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting the same result. It's time to stop the insanity and embrace the changes necessary to put our agencies back on track to fiscal health and organizational well-being. Quite simply this means looking at our operations through a business lens and managing our systems in a more responsible, defensible, and logical way. Disruptive, antiquated, special interest driven political winds have placed the public sector at a critical juncture with a critical need for entrepreneurial and innovative leaders. Today, playing it safe is not playing it smart.

Registration Fees: (lunch included in registration fees)
$99 – Platinum agency members
$119 – WRPA members/first agency member
$99 – WRPA members/additional agency members
$139 – nonmembers and registrations received after Feb. 21

2014 WASLA/WRPA Joint Conference and Trade Show
Engage, Experience and Enjoy
April 8-11 at Magnuson Park in Seattle

Leading Optimistically
Optimism is a learned trait — not a born trait. Each of us is able to develop a more optimistic outlook which helps to bounce back from defeats, become more steadfast in the pursuit of goals, and inspire more confidence in those we lead. This interactive session will focus on university-based research that will challenge our ideas on optimism, stretch our thinking, and help improve our productivity.
Presented by: Jeff Price, City of Everett

PLAY! Urbanization, Child Health, Inclusive Design, and Risk/Reward Relationship
A multifunctional approach to designing intriguing outdoor play environments that facilitate high use and are relevant for all ages and abilities will be presented through examples, concepts, and research. Children's developmental stages, health and psychological motivation will set the stage, as well as the relationship between risk and reward.
Presented by: Ken Dobyns, KOMPAN, Inc.

Field Safety
No one plans to be unsafe but people generally get in trouble when they are distracted, become complacent or both. When working out in the field, many times by yourself or not near another staff person, it is important to know how to assess situations, people and yourself to make sure you can stay safe.
Presented by: Bob Graham, Safety Awareness and Field Resources

This Just In

High school teachers, students pave path for paralyzed gymnast
She's like any other 16-year-old heading to school, but instead of walking, Jacoby Miles rides a wheelchair. "I was pretty independent from the start, and wanted to do as much as I can by myself right away," she said. The last 14 months have been a long journey for the former gymnast. In November of 2012, she fell from the uneven bars at her gym in Puyallup, leaving her paralyzed from the chest down.

Register for an Outdoor Leadership Training Workshop
Washington Trails Association
Access to free gear, trip funding and training workshops are now available for teachers and youth organizations who want to get youth, age 10-18, out on the trail.

Outdoor experiences are a powerful tool for positive youth development and Washington Trails Association wants to increase access to these experiences so that the next generation of public land stewards can benefit from fun and safe outdoor adventures.

Who should attend an OLT workshop? If you work with youth, ages 10-18, (or are in training to work with youth) then these skills workshops are for you! Teachers, youth workers from community organizations, program managers and youth ministers have all attended OLT workshops.
